A Fire and Safety Expo was held alongside the competition, with some 58,000 visitors from 22 countries. Safety exhibitions presented new innovations in fire safety and introduced advanced products.

The World Firefighter Games was first held in Auckland, New Zealand in 1990 and has since been held in the United States (Las Vegas, 1992), Australia (Perth, 1994), Canada (Edmonton, 1996), South Africa (Durban, 1998), France (Mante, 2000), New Zealand (Christchurch, 2002), England (Sheffield, 2004), Hong Kong (2006) and England (Liverpool, 2008). The 2012 Games will be held in Sydney, Australia.
