Silence grew and another friend we write,
deft fingers with SignWriting now light
on our keypad and e-mail's we send,
for on any translation we can now depend.

But I was not content with friends, just two
and my Oralist training just grew and grew;
Now I can communicate with my three friends
for in my silent world on them I can depend.

Footnote: All of us lament putting things off and then to find out in passing we are too late. Writing a poem about the reasons for creating our Talking Hands Award was one such lament until a chance meeting with a delightful lady named Judy, through my excellent Korean friend Jin-Seok, Kim.

So this poem is dedicated to the spirit of my grand mother who taught me signing, Judy who inspired me to finally write the poem, Heather Whitestone McCallum who in my humble opinion has and will continue to inspire all of us because of her inner and outer beauty and a reason for presenting the Talking Hands Award.
